First in Poland "Intelligent Transportation Systems" analytic report by UBIK
A comprehensive study on telematics solutions for the global automotive industry prepared by UBIK Business Consulting is the first of its kind published on the Polish market. A comprehensive report on telematics solutions for the global automotive industry published by UBIK Business Consulting is the first of its kind on the Polish market. It was prepared as a result of an analysis of the current situation in Europe and the potential applications of Intelligent Transportation Systems in Poland. The development of road infrastructure in our country makes us think about solutions which could improve safety and coordination of transportation, while maintaining full compliance with the standards introduced by the European Union.
One of the issues analyzed in the report are the overall trends in the vehicles concentration planning policy. Reduction of the number of vehicles in urban centers and on dual carriageways, monitoring of the number of vehicles in different traffic zones, and use of fees as a tool regulating traffic volume are the most significant issues among the findings of the document.
The study examines both currently applied and tested, as well as experimental tools and emerging telematics technologies based on GPS, GPRS, GSM, Wi-Fi and RFID technologies. The proper integration thereof is the key to increase the capacity of roads, streets and intersections hence improving road safety and improving emergency response efficiency. The implementation of such solutions causes, for example, that an expensive investment in video-radar infrastructure becomes unnecessary - speed monitoring and further law enforcement are performed by radio sensors. The author of the report, Wiesław Grochowski points out how technology can significantly impact our fate on the road. "It is estimated that shortening the response time by 1 second by V2V communications (vehicle to vehicle) should reduce the number of collisions by 90%."
An important issue also raised in the report is mitigating the effects of road traffic accidents, where modern technology such as the one used in the eCall concept assists in integrating the actions of all emergency services, thus resulting in minimizing the hazards to health and life. "Ideas to improve the performance of services should find fertile ground in Poland where, according to a recent report from the WHO, mortality rate in road accidents with the result of over 14 victims per 1,000 people puts our country on the infamous 'cutting edge' of European countries." says Wiesław Grochowski, automobile market expert in UBIK Business Consulting.
